THE QUEEN'S PLATINUM JUBILEE

As part of the platinum jubilee celebrations we held a ‘Street party’ at lunchtime on Thursday 26th May.  The children were invited to dress up in a costume from the 1950’s to 2022. The children had a wonderful time and got a special badge to remember the Queen's platinum jubilee.

EMOTIONAL WELLBEING AND MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT

With many children now back at school – and with parents again adapting to new routines – it is  important we continue to look after emotional wellbeing and mental health.

This leaflet contains a range of services children and adults can access, such as Kooth and  HOPELINEUK for young people, the Samaritans and SHOUT, alongside online platforms like Togetherall.

Similarly, parents, carers, students, and staff can find these and additional services online (https://www.stockport.gov.uk/mental-wellbeing-support-coronavirus), as well as some tips and guidance  to look after your health and wellbeing (https://www.stockport.gov.uk/look-after-your-health-and wellbeing).

It is important to recognise the invaluable support system that families, friends, and colleagues provide,  and if you know someone who is not feeling okay, the Every Mind Matters webpage has some helpful tips  on how you can help (https://www.nhs.uk/oneyou/every-mind-matters/helping-others/)

Kids Community Closet Stockport – Launching 1 October

Hi, I’m Sarah, Offerton mum of two and lover of all things Stockport – including the people!

I am launching a Stockport based clothing bank for children six months up to age 12, covering all of the Borough.

We aim to support families and children who are in need of clothing and promote sustainability and recycling. We have a volunteer seamstress on the team who can upcycle most items! We promise clothes will be washed, folded, stain free and non-bobbly.  I can’t promise we will always have everything in stock, and if we don’t we will put a call around social media to ask for donations.

Where possible we will be able to deliver bundles directly to families or arrange drop off to an office/school etc if working directly with a referrer/professional.

As of 1 October, you’ll be able to submit a clothing request by email (please call/text for urgent cases). The service isn’t means tested and doesn’t need a referral – you just need to be in genuine need. If you’re a Social Worker or school or other professional and want to refer a family then please get in touch.

We already have lots in the bank thanks to loads of kind donations but will always be collecting so please pass like us on Facebook and pass the word round! We can’t accept uniform or baby clothes (up to 6 months) as don’t want to duplicate the good work of other projects such as Early Essentials or The Stockport Uniform Project.

If you want to find out more then please feel free to call or email me. All communications treated in confidence.

Here’s to 1 October!

INTERNET SAFETY

Dear Parents,

Although there are plenty of fantastic learning materials for your children available online, it is really important that the amount of time children spend on screens is monitored.

We know where our children are when they are safe at home but do we know where they are online? It is essential to continuously monitor the online activity of children in order to keep them safe.

Below are some great websites with some fantastic tips on monitoring the screen time and activity of your child.
